Request for Shark and Ray Egg Cases
To assist an ambitious cooperative project with Peter Bor and Hajime
Ishihara, we request shark and skate egg cases from any part of the
globe. Our project consists of examining evolutionary and ecological
correlates of egg case morphology in elasmobranch
fishes. In
particular, we are interested in exploring how egg case morphology is shaped
by habitat and constrained by phylogeny (descent). This is a long-term
project and we already have the egg cases of a number of species
represented. Eventually, I hope to present a sort of 'wish list' of
species from which egg cases are particularly sought. In the mean time,
however, I'd like to ask that any shark or skate egg case you are willing to
donate or permit us to examine be sent to:
